IMHO, Hexus' review of the 1900XTX is probably the worst I've read in a long, long time.

Not worth the read. Wait for something a bit decent.

Lucky thing for nVidia that most people played Far Cry who were going to at some point over the last two years it's been out!

I can barely make heads or tails of these graphs. Definitely waiting on an xbitlabs or Anandtech review.

X1900 looks promising but the games that will really make it shine are not even out yet. There haven't really been any/many A-list games over the last year or so. Nothing on the level of a Far Cry, Doom 3 or HL2, anyways, aside from FEAR .

Well, the author sort of admitted it (needs software to really shine.. etc.), but I think this review shows only half of the picture, at best. I'll wait for AT's review.

How DARE THEY use 4AA and 16AF!

That's nice, definitely puts you in the vast minority of gamers who have been gaming the last two years though. Most of us got it free with a video card, sound card, or motherboard as they gave it away with EVERYTHING the year it came out.

I can see it now:

Joe Highendbuyer: "I say, the new ATI card is out! I better head over to the boards and see how it's doing on that shooter I played in spring 2004!"

Very few people care what is up with Far Cry any more. I gave away a couple of the free copies I got with hardware.

And most people have probably played most of the other games that typically get benchmarked. So? You'll have to find some other excsue to downplay the fact that Nvidia gets creamed in FarCry. Lol

Tweaktown's review is up.

Blimey - big improvement in half life 2 (84% up at 1600x1200) over the X1800XT. Far cry is also impressive. Here

The numbers are pretty impressive. I'd also like to see how future drivers improve performance as ATI in the past have been pretty successful at ringing out more performance over time - sometimes by large amounts.

In the hardocp review I'm impressed at the minimum fps the 512GTX is pulling in.

Now that said I'm not how well that review can be judged as various things are screaming poor/immature drivers since the X1900XTX is failing to outperform the X1800XT by significant margins which in we know it should do and other reviews eg tweaktown have shown. eg check the second Serious Sam 2 review here: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=OTUzLDY=

The driver they are using for the ATI cards is the ATI Beta Catalyst Version 8.203.3 (Non-WHQL) ...

Looks really nice card as expected.

I would like to see some meaningful game benchmarks with gpu limited resolutions and complex shaders. This is where thy real power of this card lies ;)

I think I'll pas this gen though, no reason to update this gen. My GTX will hold me great till DX10 is here.

I think he was being sarcastic, to all the "well, but.. but... the gtx is faster when you dont use AA+AF, which means... blah blah blah"

maybe not far cry, but what about the engine? is the next engine going to be similar? are there more games coming out on that engine? is it a good benchmark regardless? (i saw AT using quake3 as a benchmark just yesterday).

but i guess future considerations aren't applicable to a here-and-now 'modern' man, as the hardware can just be tossed and upgraded. after all, it's just money.

Did anybody notice in Black & White AA testing how Nvidias 4xAA looked better than its 8xAA? And it doesnt appear ATIs 6xAA is doing any AA at all in that game.

I just got done going over it and yeah, I did notice that. Had to look at it twice. Did someone screw up?

Anyhow, ATi's card looks like a beast.

I can see AA working on Ati's 6x mode. But definitely Nv's 8x mode looks like no AA. Also, what's with the blocky grass area edges on Nv cards? More crappy shadow issues???

Is that really typical of how ATIs 6xAA looks? That looks horrible and much worse than Nvidias 4xAA.
