Who needs Brady?
Only people who need Peyton, apparently.

This looked very familiar. A good team with a new quarterback wins when the other team misses a field goal at the end.

Stafford did pretty good 31/39 340 3 td's and the Lions finally had a semblance of a running game, beating a top qb on the road is great start for the season.

Some thoughts on the games I watched.

Eagles: Wentz looks like he might develop into a nice QB. Mostly positive grade on his first start. Some rookie mistakes at times. A word of caution on Wentz's performance, he was playing the Browns... Defense played much better compared to last season though still susceptible to the long ball. Corners still stink. Having the Bears next week looks like another good tune-up for Wentz (out most of the pre-season with rib injury) before facing stiffer defenses in week 3.

Browns: They pass up on drafting Wentz and traded the pick to the Eagles. The Browns have been looking for a "QB of the future" for like the last 100 years or so. It'll be funny if Wentz turns into a HOF caliber QB. Bobby 3 Sticks shows his athleticism...but doesn't show much else. Amazing athlete, but not a good QB. Quite possible they become the 2nd team to go 0-16.

Dallas: Prescott looks OK. Not great. Did anyone else notice it was all dink & dunks? My opinion is Wentz had the better debut. Considering Philadelphia's WR's suck, and you got Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, it's surprising that Wentz's had the better passing numbers. Dallas D played surprisingly well. What a blunder at the end to lose it. Run out of bounds you idiot!

Giants: Not impressed by them so far. No real opinion on them except it is a flawed team. Defense wasn't terrible but you'd expect them to better against a rookie QB. Not terrible but not great.

Arizona: What was that at the end? Spoiled an otherwise strong performance.

NE: Hate Belichick but you have to admit his a good coach.

I will not comment much on this issue but just wanted to get it off my chest. On the bleeping athletes that sat during the national anthem and some of the actions in the last couple weeks starting with Kaepernick. I'm a naturalized citizen of the US. I realize there are a injustices in the US and that things are not perfect. But to me, the national anthem represents what America should be and it also represents the men and women who have served our country. I'm proud to be a citizen of the US and have family members (also not born as US citizens) who have served in our armed forces. I feel it is a slap in the face to the men and women who have risked their lives so we can spend a Sunday at home, with a beer, watching football.

Again, I am irritated by this issue but this is a football thread and I don't want to comment too much in a football thread about this issue. Mods, if you feel this last paragraph is unwanted please remove if you need to. I will be happy to respond to PM's.

I was watching a stream of the Browns/Eagles game yesterday while watching the Ravens/Bills game on TV. RG3 has not changed one bit since he was in Washington. He is the exact same player with the exact same issues he had before. He can only hit receivers that re wide open for the most part, and he over threw quite a few wide open receivers. He still has trouble finding the endzone and any time they looked like they were making a charge, he's fall flat in the redzone just like with the Redskins. He's brittle as all hell still and he still doesn't know how to not take a hit.

He clearly does not have the speed he had prior to his injuries too. There was one play where he scrambled out of the pocket and had a good chunk of open field to run through, and he just looked like a normal qb running out of the pocket. Comparing the speed on that play to his run against the Vikings his rookie season, the difference is night and day.

I feel bad for the guy and wish he could have raped the Eagles, but he's just not a good quarterback. He's his own worst problem too as he simply will not learn. He's clearly lacking football smarts too, the intangibles that you simply can't learn. I just hope he's not injured by week 4 when he comes back to Washington. That game and week prior is going to be a lot of fun on the local radio stations.

Excited for the game tonight too. The Steelers are pretty depleted on the offensive side of the ball, but Big Ben and Antonio Brown alone are something to worry about. I'm really curious to see how Norman and Breeland can handle Brown.

Congrats on your citizenship. And not to derail the thread, but this particular person who served in the armed forces doesn't consider it a slap at all. We served and some fought not only so that you could "spend a Sunday at home, with a beer, watching football" but also stand or not stand for the Pledge as you see fit. Whether it's a smart career move (esp. in the case of Kaepernick) is another question but otherwise all I would ask if you're going to sit as a political statement then make it for a good cause. I may disagree with some of the tactics and methods of Black Lives Matter but I can't argue it's not a worthy cause; "life" was one of those inalienable rights.

Now back to football.

1. Sucks @SS that Keenan Allen is done for the year. AFC-W might have been the best overall division this year but I think this shreds SD chances.
2. CAR is both blessed and cursed to have Cam Newton but will never win the big one unless he stops vulturing every goalline run and risking getting himself killed.
3. Whoever switched Larry Fitzgerald over to the slot receiver role may have just ensured the dude gets into Canton.
4. The bad luck and health that Andrew Luck and the Colts had last year might have migrated to Russell Wilson and the 'Hawks. Barely beating MIA at home isn't a good sign.

I will say that Luck looked really good, but you can't win games where your defense puts up little resistance and lets the Lions drive into FG range in the last 37 seconds. It comes down to coaching and our coach just doesn't get it. The comical part is that some Colts fans were complaining that the Colts left "too much time on the clock" when scoring. Err, they left 37 seconds and a decent defense would've held them long enough.

I know right! *grumbles at Stewart sitting in his FLEX position*

While it's shocking that Seattle almost lost to Miami, I would say that Miami, like recent years, is actually fairly decent on both sides of the ball (paper and field) and if nothing less, has a habit of being competitive in most games (for whatever reason--either they have talent for making other teams play down to them, or they really are the perennial spoiler), and Seattle always seems to start slow. Compared to last year, a win in a game they should win is better than a loss in a game they should win. ;) They started what, 0-2 and 1-3 or something like that? and finished with 5 losses on the season. As for Wilson, I didn't get to watch the game so I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds. And I wouldn't call the SEA and IND issues bad luck--I would call it shitty O-Lines which those teams have had to deal with for as long as both QB's have been in the league. I propose that NE divide their O-Line talent with SEA and IND, which would leave us all with 3 teams with solid lines. :D

Wilson hardly moved after that until the last drive, you could tell he was hurt. Miami's d line is pretty damn good.

As someone who's broken an ankle (while spraining the other one at the same time) in sports, watching videos of other people injuring their ankles always are tough for me to watch.

ugh, that looks awful. At first, I was worried it was Mario that did it, but I see he is getting blocked off Wilson to the right of the frame. I don't think I could have taken an NC Stater injuring another NC Stater like that. :(

I think Prescott did pretty good for a rookie. He couldn't find Dez, but the only other real target the Giants needed to cover was Witten. Dez was the first read on 90% of the pass plays and the fact Dak didn't force it was a good read. Promising start. I think Zeke was less impressive ( certainly less than Morris). I know they want him to be the next every down back, but he just didn't do much for me. Morris is a more mature runner in my eyes. He should be the starting back and having Zeke come in to refresh him.

well, damn, he was my late-draft pickup for our new-this-year "OP" roster slot (basically a FLEX that also allows for QBs). That, plus my only other QB, Taylor, I'm not feeling so hot. I think Taylor is solid, though...and really all that was left in the 3rd round :\

Prescott did well, unfortunately a lot of his throws to Dez was called back or, just weren't meant to be. Sucks, but that's life.

Now, how about them Chiefffffss!!

Even their Superbowl season they barely beat the winless Bucs at home and looked horrible doing it. It happens.

More concerned about their o-line still looking terribad despite all the changes they made. I still say getting rid of Unger for Graham was an idiotic move.

hard to fault Garrett for Romo breaking himself, yet again, and that bonehead Williams from forgetting to do his only job of getting out of bounds.

It is easy to blame Garrett. Williams has been consistently bad. The fact he actually catches a pass and still ends up screwing Dallas is proof. He shouldn't be the number 2 receiver in that line up.

Redskins looking awful, as per usual.

current scouting report on the skins: just ignore whatever side of the field Norman is on, and you will score on that play. Run it, chuck it, toss it, you will score. Not that Norman has been great or anything tonight, but damn--wherever he isn't, Pittsburgh is going nuts, lol.

This is soo sad. Skins get 2 long drives and only end up with 6. Then a couple 50/50 turnovers that go for shittsburgh and it's been a dumpster fire since. And that doesn't even include letting the opposing QB drop the ball, take a couple seconds to pick it up, and then just chucking it down the sidelines for a long gain, because why not.
