Officail 2016 Prius thread

My 2008 Jeep has a camera in approximately that position.

It is for the intelligent headlights.

It recognizes car headlights and tail lights and adjusts the headlight brightness through 3 levels.
It dims my regular lights for oncoming cars, and when I am behind another car.

It also reads oncoming headlights for the auto high beams.

It looks... alright? Not pretty or even sporty but not quite as bulbuous as the outgoing Prius. I'm interested in numbers though. Cargo space, head and leg room, specifications, etc. Have an option for AWD and suddenly this is on my radar.

I want to see side by side pics. But no one has done them yet. It's not hard.

It looks like the back slopes down faster (less drag). Hard to tell withouts overlapped profiles though.

I don't mind the styling. Seeing how I don't care much it is either ugly or not ugly. No in between for me. This is not an ugly car. Where the hood meets the windshield looks stupid though.

I have a 2013. My main question is regarding powertrain. What's the deal? I don't need more HP but that electric motor needs to be bigger for better "from a stop" acceleration. 0-20 should be all electric without it taking 20 seconds to get up to speed.

Heh - my parents had a 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood that had auto-dimming headlights (and a sweet 8.2L engine). You could also probably fit this Prius in its cabin LOL.

I hadn't seen this before (the Prius) but I kinda like it (well except the rear). I've always appreciated the function of the Prius but not the form, but this one I might consider if I had a commute that worked for it.

I like the fact it's described as being more "sporty". Well, if it's relative to the previous model that doesn't exactly mean a whole lot LOL.

That looks hideous. But you know what? If its reliable gets the posted mileage it will sell very well...

Tinted windows, Hat and Sunglasses are mandatory if purchased...

When I was in high school a friend had a late 1950s Caddy (black and huge, of course) that had autodimming headlights. It had this thing that looked like a Buck Rogers raygun mounted in the center of the dashboard as the sensor. This may be the gizmo:

Styling is ok, seems designed on purpose to make it seem strange in comparison to other cars, but I don't mind it. The Instrument cluster in the centre of the dash though I just could never find attractive or desirable.

Plus I get the feeling nowadays people see "Toyota" and immediately reconfigure their minds to consider the image they see as "ugly beyond belief" rather than the "bland" or "strange" it actually is.

Monstrosity again. Yet, people do buy this because most of them are into slogans not reality.

Look at the last one. Why is there a front facing camera?

The answer is in the article: and Toyota Safety Sense — a package that includes things like automatic pedestrian avoidance and full-speed dynamic cruise (meaning the car will manage your speed for you, going all the way to a full stop in a traffic jam).

Subaru actually uses TWO cameras in their Eyesight system. http://www.subaru.com/engineering/eyesight.html

Still really ugly. I don't know why Toyota designs them to be purposefully terrible. Hopefully more power will help it along, especially at speeds. It would also be nice if they can make the engine drone less annoyingly.

Also quite disappointed the split rear window is still there and looking even worse for visibility than before. On the positive side the interior does look a lot better, I just hope its not cramped inside as the footwells looks a little odd. Also, why does this still have a foot push parking brake? It really can't be that much more to do a quick electronic one. The last one hid that pedal so well I actually had to Google how to undo it when I got in one once with it completely hidden from my view (and I assumed it was electronic). Lastly, really hope that steering wheel doesn't feel like sand paper again, although it looks like it.

Alright, done complaining, but its just these little details that are stupidly done that kill the car.

My wife's Forester has the second-gen Eyesight system. Radar cruise is amazing! It does pretty well & nearly always works, and tells you when it doesn't. I think the only two times I've seen it shut off is (1) when the window is extremely fogged up (obviously), and (2) when driving towards the sun, especially with a lot of trees casting fast flickery shadows across the windshield.

I don't think I'll ever buy a car without the automatic cruise again...it's almost like auto-pilot. Once I hop on the highway, I can drive all the way to work without touching the gas or brake the whole time, super nice!

I just now looked at the photos. Wow, the design takes the ugly Lexus cues and ups them by 10! And why on earth do they still do that stupid centered dash design. Ugh.

But the worst element might be the dildo sticking out of the dash for the gear selector. Why do you need that on a hybrid? A few buttons would suffice.

Yea looks like the new Lexus/Toyota angles they are going for just on the old body. I am not a fan of the new toyota and lexus shapes so this is not very good looking to me either.

Toyota still can't figure out the correct location for the instrument cluster.

I swear, if they'd figure it out they'd get more sales than they already do.
