It definitely tastes bad. Burns like a motherfucker as well if you take a shot. However, mixing it with some kool-aid isn't half bad, as long as you try to drink your glass as fast as possible. It's the only alcohol that has ever caused me to puke the next morning.

Never had limoncello but I think I'll be making a batch in the near future. As far as vodka-based drinks are concerned, I use Smirnoff for mixed drinks and Grey Goose for shots or on the rocks. Goose is good mainly because most chicks think that it's somewhat high-end and classy and if you ask someone to grab a bottle, they usually know what to look for.

Actually vodka is strong enough to pull the flavor out. Everclear batch was kept as per recipe. I hated the flavor though. Vodka batches are plenty strong for normal folk, even though I can't taste any alcohol.

I made some limoncello and everyone i've given some to thinks it tastes bad, as do I. I'm not sure if I went wrong somewhere. I haven't tried it anywhere else though, so I have no comparison

I believe it was something like this:

750ml bottle of 100 proof vodka
+
about 12-15 lemons worth of peel, minus pith

left for about a month

simple syrup, 2 cups water + 2 cups sugar, mixed with the strained vodka + a 2nd bottle of 100 proof vodka

stored for a few more months.
