Yes it does.

If you're manually installing phpBB for the first time, it can be a challenge.

Oh shoot now I see the problem, how do I end my old hosting service and let my domain know I have new hosting. Sorry for the n00b questions I have never transfered hosts before. I'll try SMF. link to SMF?

I just sent the following info to another AT'er, I thought some of you might find it helpful as well.

You should follow these steps:

1) First you buy the domain through namecheap.com or godaddy.com
2) Then you contact Jim (dartworth) with ALL these details:
  • Domain
  • Desired username (8 or less characters this will also be your MAIN or DEFAULT email address, so make it something super easy to remember)
  • Desired password which you can change later.
  • Do you need FrontPage support? If you do then you're a n00b and should be banned from AT 😛
  • What is your permanent email address which you check frequently?
3) After your account has been created, you should receive a welcome email which has two DNS name servers. Login to namecheap.com or godaddy.com and change your DNS name servers.
4) Make sure your domain is in LOCKED status at your domain registrar.

Sounds good but I think I fiqured it out. I registered with namecheap.com now I just need to hear back from jim. I need him to change the account he set up for me to another domain name. (The one I just registered.)

If I can't fiqure it out I'll pm you my number.

Also I am kind of scared to talk to you on the phone I have heard rumors from people that after someone talks to you on the phone, that person asks for a better price where ever they go. 😉

Actually a small percentage of the phone conversations I'd had with 400+ AT'ers were about hot deals. Mostly domain registration, web hosting, financial matters and proper peener flap etiquette 😛

So I haven't read every post, but do you own a datacenter or something?

No.

He either has a resellers account, VPS or dedicated server located at Fortress ITX data center.

Web hosting is ridiculously cheap these days. For under $6/mo you can become your own "web host" with a resellers account. You cut up a large account into smaller slices and either give it away for free or charge customers for it. Last year I helped a 15 yr old AT'er get a resellers account for $6/mo, they resold small packages to teachers and students. Last I heard he gets about $150/mo from his clients and he just pays $6/mo for his resellers account.

Accounts now have 500MB of storage and 5000MB of monthly bandwidth.

I won't have a domain name for another day or two, but once that happens i'll be all over this. thank you so much in advance dartworth!
