Offensive comedy, a good or bad thing? (With Poll)

I'm just wondering how many of the forum users like/dislike offensively styled comedy becuase there was an incident over the weekend.

I better define it (this is a poor attempt at doing so I know). Jokes about religion, race, sexual orientation, babies, crime, ... and on and on.

The first example of a comedian I could think of that uses this style of comedy is Stephen Lynch.

Absolutely a good thing.

It's vital to the health of a free thinking society for sacred cows to be slain on a regular basis.
It prevents us from ever reacting to something as trivial as a cartoon in the manner witnessed in the M.E.

IMHO.

I'm selective about my offensive comedy. For some reason, I don't find jokes about sex funny at all, while other stuff I don't have too much of a problem with and actually enjoy sometimes.

The only reason people need to do offensive material is because they can't come up with anything that's any good without getting that "shock" factor in there.

It's pretty much a bunch of "Look at me! Look at me!" material.

Semi-correct. If a comedians entire act is made up of at least 90% "offensive" material, then that comedian is crap and unfunny.

But a good comedian with the occasional "offensive" joke that you didn't see coming is priceless.

It's funny and I don't give a damn what all the other tree hugging beloved patriot baby rapers say about it

That term offends me. 😉

People who are labeled 'politically correct' don't like to be called politically correct, they like to be called 'socially aware'. 😉 😛

Yeah, it gets to a point where you can't speak about anything that has any real significance anymore.

It depends on the jokes for me, my friends and I joke a lot and bash on each other. Kind of keeps us down to earth to tell the truth.
