OFFENDED by "The O.C." depiction of Riverside/Chino people

I'm not sure if some of you watch it, but there's a new FOX television show called "The O.C." that is apparently based on some characters living in the namesake Orange County. I've been aware of some people from the Riverside area of California have been concerned about some of the negative sentiments about this region portrayed by the show. For instance, in certain episodes, the term "white trash" has been applied to Riverside.

What offends me is that the protagonist Ryan Atwood is supposedly originally from Chino, part of the Riverside County (Inland Empire) area, yet he is portrayed as a normal, likeable person. This is highly offensive, as the scriptwriters have inaccurately depicted Riverside people as socially aware and well-kept, when in truth, they are predominantly inbred, classless, and embody the term "white trash." The show "O.C." unfairly glorifies Riverside people, and is highly misleading to people who live in areas where people don't live in trailer parks and drive their tractors to work every morning. I intend to write a letter to the show demanding a factual correction be published in the local newspaper. I was wondering what your thoughts were.

I didn't know Riverside was ghetto??

You ever hear of Compton? Hunter's Point? South Central??? Yeeaaaahh. Riverside.

Valsalva

it didn't look that bad...

Well you didn't get your leg blown off by a drive-by tractor shooting, like my friend. And what's worse, people get assaulted by tumbleweed all the time. It's a horrendous sight. Stay out of Riverside.

How is UC Riverside compared to the town/city as a whole? I have a couple friends that go to Riverside and say it's really nice. Newest UC campus, biggest UC campus, and apparently a lot of things within walking distance. Maybe they are just ignorant because we're all from Walnut Creek

Heaven forbid you *gasp* be offended. People are offended daily, it's nothing to get your panties (women's of course) in a twist. Just don't watch the show. Simple.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. UCR is an abomination to higher education. 86% acceptane rate, 16% of freshman with a verbal SAT above 600. The campus, while being the newest, is by far the UGLIEST POS you ever did see. The smog is so terrible you can barely see the adjacent mountains. The buildings are cheaply designed with very plain features and ugly architecture. The surrounding city is trailer-ville....it's a wife-beater-town. And best of all, at UCR, you're surrounded by the absolute most unintelligent people in the U.C system. No wonder they call it "U.C. Rejects." Your Walnut Creek friends need visit a REAL UC campus like Berkeley or UCLA.

God who cares. I'd rather whine about how Playmakers inaccurately depicts NFL life.

I guess I don't get whatever the inside joke is, having never been near Orange County, seen the show, found folks who live in trailer parks or own tractors to be 'unlikable'.

You apparently failed to see the irony in my post. Perhaps you went here.

Valsalva

No, I got it. You're not that clever. Again, I just don't care. And neither does the rest of the country. Get over yourself.

Ohhh, well check out the big brain on Muck!!!! ...and hey, your response was just bubbling with wit and intuition. And get this, genious: even though you claim that "you just don't care," you clearly cared enough to go through the effort to respond to my original post AND follow up to my response within a couple of hours. Hmmm....

I got into UCR but opted to go there as the campus sucks. So many large trees and it didn't have much of a University feel to it.
U.C. Rejects is very accurate.
