I'm not sure if some of you watch it, but there's a new FOX television show called "The O.C." that is apparently based on some characters living in the namesake Orange County. I've been aware of some people from the Riverside area of California have been concerned about some of the negative sentiments about this region portrayed by the show. For instance, in certain episodes, the term "white trash" has been applied to Riverside.
What offends me is that the protagonist Ryan Atwood is supposedly originally from Chino, part of the Riverside County (Inland Empire) area, yet he is portrayed as a normal, likeable person. This is highly offensive, as the scriptwriters have inaccurately depicted Riverside people as socially aware and well-kept, when in truth, they are predominantly inbred, classless, and embody the term "white trash." The show "O.C." unfairly glorifies Riverside people, and is highly misleading to people who live in areas where people don't live in trailer parks and drive their tractors to work every morning. I intend to write a letter to the show demanding a factual correction be published in the local newspaper. I was wondering what your thoughts were.
