Example.....
A guy posts in the cpu forum about how his 200$ overclocked i7 920 @ 3.8 is a great value compared to his buddies $300 i7 950 @ 4.0 .
The others in the cpu forum say "hey that geat you made a fine choice ,I bet you buddies upset he paid that extra money for about the same performance".
A guy post in the gpu forum "hey there is a 250$ card that can give you 360$ card performance when overclocked.
" Most guys in the video forum say " why is this so great, it uses 5 more watts under load, runs 2c hotter , loses in a few said games by 2%, the review was biased, the games IN the review were biased, ect, ect. ect"
Why might this be?
Why is this bad for the forums?
Example:
A man holding a unemployment check in his hand 🙁 asks his son "what do you want for your birthday", dad I want a card that will run my new game, Jason accross the street got a 6970 and it is cool. Dad goes online at Newegg, and see's the 6970 is $360, looks down at his check and it reads 400$. Dad gets smart and looks on the most popular video forum in the world, here at Anandtech 🙂.
He scrolls down and see's a thread about a cheaper card (gtx560) performing about = to the card thats out of his reach (6970).
Dad reads though the totally derailed thread, gets confused and buys the 6970 anyway.
The father and son eat meatloaf instead of steak that month. 🙁
Son comes down for dinner one night and says, dad jeeeez meatloaf AGAIN, dad says "well that video card was almost 400$" son says, yea my other buddy overclocked his gtx560 and gets about the same speed as me, he said it was 249$.
Dad eating his meatloaf for the 10th time says to himself. Dammit, I'll never go on that forum again.
I know this is an extreme example, but you get the picture.
