I just finished my finals at UCLA, ::whew::... anyhow... I have 3 weeks now and I'm going to be really bored. All my friends are from North Cali, so they'll all be gone. Anyhow, back to my question.

With 3 weeks of boredom, does anyone know of any good games I can play? What's a good time consuming RPG that is fun? Or just a time consuming game that will take me a while to beat?

Thanks.

just get unreal tournament and set it to its hardest setting, that will take a while to beat. You could try civilization three, not sure how long it takes to beat, but one of my friends said it takes a while and you can play different scenarios. Wolfenstein mignt be a good one, or maybe Ghost recon. Or you could get some games for ps2 or regular ps like final fantasy... there are lots of them.

Read a book!!!

Here are some good books to read;

Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson (or any of his books)
Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chomsky ( hehehehe, this is my 'pinko commy nutjob' reccomendation, a really good damn book though )
100 Years of Solititude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Love and the Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez (well, anything by him is good)
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues - Tom Robbins (not Tim, and everything by him is good too)
The Myth of Sysphus - Albert Camus
The Lord of the Rings - Tolkien (everyone is reading these now because of the movie, it makes me sick)
Demian - Hermann Hesse
Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse
1984 - George Orwell
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu
The Bible - God (haven't read this one yet, but apparently it's really good, people have died cause of it)
The Quran - God (another one I have to get to, again, people have died)
The Picture of Dorian Grey - Oscar Wilde
East of Eden - John Steinbeck (all of his are good)

I guess that's enough to keep you busy for three weeks anyway.
Now, relax, make some hot chocolate and max out on the couch with a good read.

And you calling my NEF isn't neffing?

<< Read a book!!!
>>

NEF on AnandTech Off-topic forum.

As if this thread isn't 100% OT anyways? He wants to know how to spend three weeks... he seems to think that the only option is playing games. I happen to think that playing games aren't the only ways to kill time. I have nothing against games, I play em too.
Now, why are you rabidly opposed to me mentioning a book on these forums?
Why don't we just burn all the damn books? We'll have a big book burning party just like the fascists of WWII.

I think he was suggesting to Nef as a means of combating boredom.

I played Unreal T for SO long.. kind of sick of that game. I play CS enough everyday, so it's kind of old. I also beat Wolfenstein on hardest difficulty. I'm thinking of Wizardry 8.. I also have Ender's Shadow to read, Stranger in a Strange Land, and Hitchhiker's compendium to finish... but I want a GAME!

Why, since the movie is coming out, does people reading LOTR make you sick?

here is what goes on in some people's minds..

"Boy, everyone says the books are really great, and you need to read them before you see the movie...since I haven't read them yet, I think I will do it to experience the most out of the books!"

how is that sickening?
