Search the US National news, if you haven't heard of Gatlinburg TN today.
Just one county away from me, my neighbors in Sevier County have suffered what can only be called a Fire Storm. Severe drought for 5 months, and everything burns in an instant, and a small 10 acre fire, driven by 30-80MPH storm front winds suddenly grew to500 14,000 15,000 15,700 17,860 acres and counting, engulfing the city of Gatlinburg, whose glowing embers sparked even more fires, surrounding the town on all sides in only a few hours, plus igniting surrounding areas and escape routes too.
Another front moves through tonight, with winds 'only' up to 30mph, but with heavy rain this time. Last nights sprinkles will have done little to halt the aggression of these many fires.
At leastthree four seven eleven thirteen fourteen people are known to be dead, many hundreds of 1,684 homes, businesses, and rental cabins damaged/destroyed. 14,000+ residents and tourists displaced. Here in my community, a utility worker lost his life when a tree fell on him as he was trying to restore power to parts of my town.
I have a heavy heart, and ask for your prayers for those affected. Unless you're atheist. Then you can donate a bit to the Red Cross.
