Search the US National news, if you haven't heard of Gatlinburg TN today.

Just one county away from me, my neighbors in Sevier County have suffered what can only be called a Fire Storm. Severe drought for 5 months, and everything burns in an instant, and a small 10 acre fire, driven by 30-80MPH storm front winds suddenly grew to 500 14,000 15,000 15,700 17,860 acres and counting, engulfing the city of Gatlinburg, whose glowing embers sparked even more fires, surrounding the town on all sides in only a few hours, plus igniting surrounding areas and escape routes too.

Another front moves through tonight, with winds 'only' up to 30mph, but with heavy rain this time. Last nights sprinkles will have done little to halt the aggression of these many fires.

At least three four seven eleven thirteen fourteen people are known to be dead, many hundreds of 1,684 homes, businesses, and rental cabins damaged/destroyed. 14,000+ residents and tourists displaced. Here in my community, a utility worker lost his life when a tree fell on him as he was trying to restore power to parts of my town.

I have a heavy heart, and ask for your prayers for those affected. Unless you're atheist. Then you can donate a bit to the Red Cross. :pensive:

Yes have been watching and was hoping you were not affected by this. Was hoping you were the Powerball winner.:D
Our thoughts are with those affected by the fires and hope that no more lives will be lost. Hoping for a good soaking rain for everyone there to stop the fires.

Beautiful place up there, I visit often and stay at Mountain Shadow Resorts cabins. Will be thinking about you guys Tony and all prayers. The wife and I plan on coming up in March. Hope you get some of this rain I am getting here in Huntsville, AL, with out the tornadoes. Gonna be a long night tonight. Daughter is over at UNA in Florence, AL, tornado tracking south of there at the moment. Power out everywhere.

sorry to hear it. here in TX a few years back we had a long drought too. having lived through the horror of wild fires I feel your pain. God bless the fire fighters who try to stop the madness. may He drop enough rain to quell the fires. and, God bless those who have lost the most in these terrible times. I wish you and yours the best, may God be with you.

The more I learn about what happened up there, the harder it is to believe. I mean, I know you blow on a log, the fire is gets ridiculous hotter than 'normal.' But enough to melt aluminum wheels and engine heads/blocks? Astounding horror, to have been trapped there.
