My parents cried when my oldest left to go to school 7 hours away.
They were pretty unaffected when I left for school (middle child).
I KNOW they had a party when my youngest left.

Pfff, living on campus is so over-rated.

If you mean living at home during college is better...ha, that's a lie.

And to the op, man up, the real world starts today...well, the pseudo-real world anyway. Trust me, your mom will be fine, she's sad to see you go but she'll be happier in a month or two. Parents are sad when you leave, but happy to have their house/life back.

Leaving in two hours and I'm getting sad/nervous...lol I sound like a wimp

Bah, it's fine...

Oh and my momma never cried when any of us left for college, but I don't know... I don't think you could say that we were your shinning beacon of a tight-knit American family 😛. Although, my room was never changed over and was always nice and clean and the bed was made when I got home heh.

Sheesh, my mom is probably way more protective than anyone's and she didn't cry (openly to me) and I went to school 3 hours away.

lol 45 minutes away? she could visit you every weekend if you she wanted to. i had to go around the US for school

My mom is a coalminer's daughter. She helped me carry my stuff in, and said "Well, don't do anything stupid and stay out of trouble"

She's very pragmatic, and not really about open displays...

I'm sure she was weeping on the inside 😉

My mom cried when I went to college, and then the second college, and then basic training, and then afgahnistan, and then iraq. She probably wont cry when I go to college again 😀

of course, my mom cried when i went to college 6 hours away. mom cried even more when my younger brother went to college 3 hours away.

my brother and i are the only relatives who went to out-of-state colleges. rest of them graduated in the state (mostly from rutgers.)

Living on campus really is over-rated, but if the school you're going to is so far away it's almost a good idea.
You'd rather live at home than on campus?

For some people (including me), the money you save by living at home and going to college is so great that it can't be overlooked.

Your life sounds dull.

I'm just confused, everybody seems to like it here and my brother said the first week stinks, but I can't honestly say that I know I will like it or not.

I am homesick even though I'm only 40 minutes away. Sure, I can go home whenever, but it'd only be to visit, not to stay.

I remember being dropped off at college... sheesh - 8 years ago now. It was a very odd feeling, that last hug and walking away. I know, I know - corny! But... still... it's a leap into a world outside of your parents' house. Luckily my roommate was awesome, I happened to make some friends, and after a week, it felt like I was at some kind of summer camp.

Work on those grades, and everything will fall into place. Good luck! 🙂 Oh, and email/call your mom often - they like it so much, haha.

I might not want to live on campus anymore, but I think anyone will agree that your first year is a worthwhile experience. I have friends that are 15 minutes away don't live at home. Commuting is stupid. If I wanted to I'm sure I could too, but what fun is there in living off campus? (Off campus as in at home and not in an outside apartment).

If you can't enjoy the dorms either you have some major issues or you're just seriously SOL and placed in the worst hell there could possibly be.
