Heh when was there a time in this country when we werent restricting somebody's right to vote? Who was and wasnt allowed to initially vote in this country when it was formed?

That said I do think it is time we moved the election date to a Saturday. It is a rather outdated system we have voting in the middle of the week. I suspect it is a holdover from a time when people worked on farms and had to drive into town to vote on a horse and buggy.

1. All American citizens that want to vote and are eligible to vote, should vote.

2. No non-citizens, dead people, made up people or multiple voting should be allowed.

3. All votes cast and ONLY those votes cast should be counted.

Photo IDs are free in the states with voter ID laws.

Photo ID laws are equivilant to voter registration laws in that it requires people to actively do something in order to be allowed to vote, and that this something is both easy and free to do.

It is not easy to do for all citizens. And given the fact that voter fraud (that these kinds of laws are supposed to protect against) is basically non-existent, it makes it even worse that millions of people will be denied that right to vote. I find it funny that people will fight so hard for little to no restrictions on the right to bear arms, but these same people don't fight for this other constitutional right. But most of us know what this is really all about anyways.

There's a simple solution to this:

1) Mandated voting for every citizen over the age of 18, or pay a fine, lose your driver's license, whatever. Something that's too painful to avoid voting.

2) Create a national voter's "holiday" that must be respected by ALL business, or they pay a fine large enough to discourage playing loose on the rules.

Too bad that will never, ever happen.
