off i go to REI

I got a killer deal at REI on a backpack there. They fitted to my small frame. They got the adult backpack, but got the straps off the childs pack to make it fit me better. The price tag remained on the straps. I walk up to the counter to pay, I got charged the kids pack price, over 50% savings. I asked "Are you sure?" and the cahsier goes "Yup!". Pay and run!

fyi: i see generic Nalgene bottles at Target for cheap all the time, usually like 7 bucks each or so.

I wouldn't call them "generic," they're Eddie Bauer brand, and they red white (gray) and blue ones are on clearance right now, I got a couple for $2 each at one target, and one for $4 at another.

Just got a daypack there the other day. 3100 cubic in, now I'm considering getting a bigger backpacking bag since it's only 3800 cubic in.

I would happily buy all my clothes at REI if I could afford it. So comfortable and durable.

i know. but i can't justify $35 at REI vs. $20 at Old Navy 🙁

I got my equipment for backpacking through Europe from REI. Really cool stores. They make you wanna do outdoors stuff.

and most of the people there are very knowledgeable and friendly, and will ramble on for hours about their hobbies & stuff.

It is a neat store; there's one a couple of minutes up the street from my house. Another good place to shop - online, unless you live in the northeast - is Campmor. I got a whole bunch of stuff through them when I went hiking in Colorado a few years ago. Man, I'd love to do that again 🙂

i bought the 'older' clear bluish ones that were x amount of dollars on clearence, but ended up 5.98 after my discount [i really don't know the original price, but you can do the math]. I also buy most all my camping supplies there, and i bought my jansport polaris 33 which i'm quite happy with. REI membership was worth it. Too bad where i go to school, the nearest REI is a 15min or so drive, whereas at home it's only 3 =\

Campmor has one of the best backpacking catalogs out there. They list the weight of every item. Helped me get my sack down to 12 lbs. w/3 days of food on board. Just add water.

Never heard of it.

Think, "middle-class outdoorsy".

Not as preppy as L.L. Bean, but kind of the same idea.

and a heck of a lot more technical. they also sell bikes, kayaks, basically everything you'd need for any outdoor hobby. i don't think llbean compares...
