Off duty cop shoots and kills off duty fireman

Hubbard told detectives that Bruno flipped him over and said, 'You shouldn't have hit me," and then continued to punch him.

"He continued to strike me and I started to lose consciousness, and I believed the suspect was not going to stop hitting me until he killed me," Hubbard told investigators.

Hubbard said he started to black out from blows to the head and decided to take out his gun and fire two shots at the center of Bruno's body.

But seriously I'm not sure what this is going to do to relations between the KCPD and KCFD but the end result appears to be justified. To bad the situation escalated to that point in the first place.
 
If you pin a cop to the sidewalk and start punching him in the head, you're probably going to get shot.

I hear 4 voices in the second video posted and it sounds like every one was slurred speaking except the officer. Drinking and punching kills.
 
Fucking annoying dumbasses recording, "that's a very aggressive stance that that cop is taking". He was just holding him down, and pretty tamely at that. Now, the cop did shoot quickly, after what looked like only 2 or 3 punches, but justified shoot in my opinion. Who knows what drunk guy would have done.
 
THIS is what a violent drunk deserves.

Not the bullshit some of you sick fucks pulled out of your asses on shooting a drunk woman in the face - after the home owner opened the door for her.

Yeah, recording the police is fine. Yelling at one when they're wrestling someone who is resisting arrest is a dumbass move.
 
Wait, cop was "off duty"? Playing security guard for the Marriott?

Why did he chase this guy ("several blocks" from the article, surely outside of his area of responsibility/authority)? Why did he initiate a confrontation with this guy?

Under what authority was he attempting to detain the individual?

Applies to EVERYONE. I fully support the use of deadly force to stop aggravated assault and battery.

HOWEVER, in this case the cop was off-duty. No authority, but injected himself into the situation and escalated it himself. He bears a great deal of responsibility.

The primary difference here is there's no question as to his escalation and aggression. It was in full view of the public / multiple witnesses.

In most juristictions cops are not ever really "off duty" and if he's working, even under contract to a private entity, he has a responsibility to intervene.

As the story said, he responded to an assault in progress and attempted to effect an arrest. He then chased the guy, leading to what you see.

I don't see how he bears any responsiblity. The idiot that assaulted one person, fled from lawful arrest, and then assaulted another is who you should be looking at.

An off-duty cop is still a cop, and maintains all corresponding authority.

Hmm... seems this off-duty cop still had his uniform on. Based on the video he was clearly trying to calmly arrest the man. Upon further review I will not blame him for starting the situation. I fully back his action to defend himself.
