Odd:

CRANDON, Wisconsin (CNN) -- A 20-year-old off-duty sheriff's deputy shot and killed six people at an early-morning party before dying under circumstances that remained officially under wraps Sunday night, officials said.

And on the home page:

A 20-year-old off-duty sheriff's deputy shot and killed six people at an early-morning party in Wisconsin, police said. The deputy died after being tracked down by his fellow officers. Among the victims at the party was 14-year-old Lindsey Stahl. "I don't want to believe it," her mother said.

Sounds like the fellow officers did what they should have done.

After a manhunt lasting several hours, Peterson was tracked down by his fellow officers.

"There are six deceased inside that residence," Police Chief John Dennee told reporters. "The subject was located by law enforcement officers. The subject is deceased and is no longer a threat to the public."

Dennee would not say how Peterson died. But Crandon Mayor Gary Bradley said the assailant had been brought down by a sniper, AP reported.

As much as I would like to see all cases like this end with the person getting killed, I kinda also hope he really deserved it, I mean, he deserved it, but I hope he posed a threat.
Not that the cops just decided to kill him themselves for killing six people. He would have rotted in jail or gotten the death penalty anyways, but still that's up to a jury and the justice system.

Maybe you should rename the title to "off-duty cop kills six people". It's a bit relevant to the story there, Copernicus.

Woodward or Bernstein? Okay. Sherlock? I could see it. But, Copernicus? No way. The story isn't related to math or astronomy. Change your insult.

So I'm expected to believe that some crazy fuck cop goes wild and kills six people, including a 14-year old girl, but he wouldn't have done it if he happened to be on duty? It's ridiculous to suggest that, the PD clearly hired somebody who was bat-shit insane.

I'm waiting for the same people that think college students and the rest of the public shouldn't have guns to chime in and demand that police shouldn't have guns. Of course it won't happen, but if the possibility of mental instability is a good enough reason to disarm the public, it's a good enough reason to disarm the police.

Of course, the bottom line is that someone could be mentally unstable regardless of his/her profession... there's no need to target an entire group of law-abiding citizens or public servants.

Glad to see the police took care of the situation, even if it meant taking down one of their own.

I'm sure the cops would have just arrested him if he gave himself up. Looks like his plan always included that being his last night on earth.

+1

And even more so, this guy would have killed those people if he were a cop or not. Crazy is crazy.

You are in no position to make such arguments. Also believe it or not when people are in uniform they make certain mental correlations and often feel certain responsibilities they dont feel when they are off duty in their casual dress.

And how would you know what posistion I am in? I have worn a uniform in my time.

A man who is capable of mass murdering 6 people would do it if he were a cop, a carpenter, a scientist, a senator - whatever. His occupation has nothing to do with it.

Exactly. Anyone can have a mental fvck up and just start killing people.
