Of Velociraptor and Storage

Hey guys, basically I've been looking to purchase a velociraptor hard drive after I saw the pretty astounding load times and other benchmarks compared to my current hard drive (WD Green 500gb HD). My problem, though, is that 300gb of space just isn't enough for me. Is it possible dump all my games, music, etc on a bigger drive, but activate them from the Velociraptor, thus getting the faster load times, gaming benefits, etc? Basically, using one HD to store all my stuff, but the Velociraptor to run it? Also, if I'm going to leave the "gaming" drive pretty much empty, should I just go for an SSD over the Velociraptor? If so, which SSD should I go for?

Any answers would be awesome, and sorry if those were really obvious questions :/

Unfortunately, this is all I have to think about as my precious 750i's cpu socket pins broke for some inexplicable reason, and I'm waiting on the new one to come in 🙁

170$ is hard to come by when you're 16, dangit!

The short answer is no.

Ouch. I really want the performance boost, but 300gb is just, ugh. Guess I'll have to throw the games on the Velociraptor and everything else on another drive.

Bleargh. Thanks for the quick reply, though, I appreciate it 😀

SSD is out now, I s'pose.

There is no need for your music, photos, or videos to be on the Velociraptor. Just use it for OS and apps.

you can run your OS on a Raptor and install games on the green

The OS will run faster but games wil only run as fast as green or a little faster...

You can buy another 500 green and raid them and will have a 1tb drive that runs as fast as a Raptor almost for the price of a green and raid card if your mobo dosent have raid

Roger, I just have quite a hefty amount of games :/

Curse you MMO's/RTS's!

how can a velociraptor "activate" things? either you store them on the velociraptor, or you store them on another drive. If you are running a game, the speed depends on which drive it is stored on. do you need your music to load "faster"? if not (which is how it should be) then you don't need it on the velociraptor. Do you need your pictures to load faster? no. then they don't need to be on it...
Do you wish levels loaded faster in games? well, put those games on the velociraptor and they will be faster.
