Hey Arsynic you should have 8GB of ram on your rig. Especially if your using W7. gl

But what about this?

Nicely said FishAK.

As for your question will you see a difference from 4GB to 8GB. No you wont unless you do video editing or run a DAW. Playing games 4GB is just fine no thrashing,, and general comp use 4GB is fine even on W7 but once you wanna do rendering etc multitasking 8GB will kick in.

As for what to buy. You should see what the max GB of RAM you can put on your mobo.
If it exceeds 8GB then if you get 2 x 2GBx2 then you wont have any slots left. Give it future proof. I say go 2 x 4GB for 8GB. and you have 2 slots open to go to 16GB if your mobo supports it. gl

I love all the useful posts to this thread.

Anyway back to the OP, I just acquired an ADATA SSD that has a SandForce controler. On my Asus G73jw it will hang intermittently when idle but on my Lenovo tablet it works flawlessly. When the hang occures the drive no longer shows up on the machine until a hard reboot is done.

This matches exactly with one users comments on newegg
Cons: Certain laptops take advantage of a firmware bug in the Sandforce SF-1222 controller that causes the SSD to dismount when going into a low power state like standby or hibernate. When resuming, Windows no longer detects the drive and displays a beautiful BSOD when it tries to access the drive.

Additionally to test this I wrote a script that appended a line to a log file on the SSD every 3 minutes. The drive never disappears as long as this is running. This all points to a problem with the way a specific motherboard/bios/or machine handles power management with the 1222 Sandforce controlers.

adata sandforce has significant issues with pata to sata converters. many older laptops used these. The x25-V has none such of these issues. so yeah it does behave differently but i seriously doubt they had that in mind when developing the products.
