OEM VS Retail

What's the difference between OEM VS Retail when it comes to hardware purchased from sites like Newegg.com?

well, the cpu's don't come with coolers, and generally it won't come with any software such as drivers, burner software or extras, hard drives will only come with the cable, nothing else

EDIT: Actually I think the only thing that comes with an hdd is the drive itself... no problem though, as the MoBo will come with plenty of cables. Welcome to the forums!😀

Hard to say without being specific. In some cases it may just be the software bundle, in other cases OEM will ship with only the hardware itself while in other cases there may be no retail or OEM counterpart so you get no choice.

What I had in mind specifically was the CPU. Same chip has a $50 difference if my memory serves me right.

For CPU, retail includes a better warranty and HS/F. If you are going to change the HS/F or Overclock, OEM is likely better since either will void the warranty anyway.

Retail is the whole enchilada. OEM is just the part, nothing more.

WD retail HDD is a 1yr warranty, OEM is 3yr or 5yr, some enchilada, Retail offers less

Ya, that's the weird thing with HDDs and CPUs. HDD warranties: retail<oem, but for CPUs, retail>oem. Other parts, no idea.
