OEM Sound Cards, what do you miss out on?

I see that the Audigy 2 is at least 30 bucks cheaper than the retail version, but what is missing? I don't mind not getting the games and it looks like the OEM comes with the drivers, but I see other disks that say Audigy on them, is that other software worthwhile? Can a suitable substitute be had for cheap? Also, I see one cable missing, what is it for and would it be cheap to buy?

I'm looking at the pics on Newegg.com.

Thanks

Anthony

oem tends to have less documentation, a lack of games/software/crap

that's usually the only difference with my experience... if you know what you're doing and what you want, then you probably want oem

OEM usually means it's just the card and nothing else, sometimes it comes in a white box with nothing more than a barcode on it. OEM is usually sold to system manufacturers who just need the hardware when they're building the systems and none of the fluff. For most hardware enthusiasts this is also the case, but each person has to decide on their own if the extra materials (CD's, wires, cables, etc.) are worth the little bit extra you have to pay for the retail version.

I personally like to buy just about everything OEM since I can get it for much cheaper and I know what I'm doing.

Thanks, I know what OEM is, i was just wondering about this specific card @ Newegg. I'm wondering about that cable and the extra software. If the cable is necessary, and costly it may not be that great of a deal. I can always download the manual and newest drivers so that's cool, I just wonder about extra software.

Thanks

sound card wires at my local mom and pop are 1.00 to 2.00 usd for universal (3 different ended cable) also you may not need it if your using win xp and an 80 wire? cable to the drive as removed mine and it works fine without it

What's an 80 wire?

Anyone know if the Audigy software is worthwhile? Or will I be fine with just the drivers?

another thing you might also want to consider is the warranty. OEM Creative cards typically have 1-year warranties and they can only be replaced by the place you got it from. Retail cards have longer warranties and can be RMA'ed directly to Creative.
