Hey guys, I was considering getting the logitech x-230 speakers and the logitech lx300 keyboard/mouse combo until i stumbled upon fair prices for the x-530 and the lx700. The problem is the x-530 and lx700 are oem/whitebox (which i think means oem). Here are the prices

x-230 RETAIL = 45 CAD
lx300 RETAIL = 50 CAD

x-530 OEM = 50 CAD
lx700 OEM= 63 CAD

What's the difference between the retail and OEM packages for speakers and keyboard/mouse combos? Should i go for the OEM speakers and keyboard?

Retail - Straight from Manufacturer. Includes all CD's, cables, and little extras.
OEM - Just the product. No drivers, no unnecessary extra bits.

1. May need to buy other hardware
2. May be missing accessories (for example USB to PS/2 plug)
3. May have a shorter warranty (for example 30 days instead of 5 years)

newegg.com might have details if your vendor does not.

any idea what the unnecessary extra bits include? i dont want to be missing any useful cables for anything :S. can anyone tell me what this means in terms of keyboard/mouses and speakers?

i can get the drivers online right?

Nope, no idea. I suggest you look at details (including pictures) of retail, look at details of OEM, compare.

As far ask keyboards and speakesr you should get everything you need. What you wont get, for example, is a SATA cable with your hard drive.

You can get drivers online for sure.

OEM is great for just about everything.

your box should come with everything except for manuals and packaging... no need to flip out... u can probably even find the manuals on the net.

dp = double post. I accidnetly posted twice.

OEM is the exact same product as retail. You can RMA if it breaks. I bought an OEM hard drive from Newegg in December. It recently died and I RMAed it. Took a week to get a new one.

Yeah you usually don't have to worry about OEM with hard drives and optical drives, since the motherboard usually has most of the cables. I would worry with things that need drivers (video card, sound card, kb/mouse possibly)

hey bona fide, if the higher model oem speakers are 10 bucks more, but i may not use the surround setup, do you think its worth it?
