What was the scoop on haveing to flash new firmware or something of the like on these drives?

maxs, I have the 2940u and this drive also. Can you give me some tips on how to set it up? I am a newbie at scsi things. I have a 2 device cable. Do I need to put a terminator on the 2nd scsi connector since nothing is on it? Should termination be on on the drive? Thanks.

You just want to set the termination jumper on the last device in the chain.
The drive will terminate the chain.
Just remember to take it off if you add other devices.

If your Plextor is the only device on the cable, I would skip the middle connector and use the one on the end and put the terminator jumper &quot;ON&quot; your Plextor. Hope this helps.

what about the other jumpers such as scsi id and parity?? It seems like compgeeks doesn't provide enough jumpers for this drive if those settings need to be on also.

If the plextor is the only device in your scsi system (besides the scsi card) then the only jumpers you need are the parity and the termination. If the SCSI ID jumpers are not jumpered, it's ID 0. Your SCSI card should be ID 7. That will work out fine. My Plextor is ID 0 because my 2 SCSI hard drives don't have termination. The drive at ID 1 is my boot drive.

dammit...I was fully ready to buy this drive (I have one already and flashed) and a) its gone and b) the site is dead (at the moment)...
grrrr...BTW: thanx shippy for the SCSI info...I'm a little foggy on the whole thing...when I got my first plex/hp drive, I just tossed it in and it worked w/o messing w/ jumpers..

Most likely, they had one or two of the drives in stock because they were previously RMA'ed for some reason or another. So whoever bought the drive(s), make sure it is not a lemon.

A couple of months ago, I bought a 4x Plextor SCSI CD-ROM from them. The unit was seriously defective. When I RMA'ed it, I asked to get another of the same unit, but they were out of stock, so I took credit. About two weeks later, they had the 4x Plextor SCSI CD-ROM back in stock only to go out of stock in a day. I believe someone had bought the crap drive that I had returned. So buyer beware.
