OEM Extended Battery for Galaxy S3?

I was researching this a couple of days ago and there are several websites that mention the OEM extended battery kit for the S3 was supposed to be released on January 5th with a 3000mAh capacity. The only reason i'm interested in this as opposed to current beefy replacements is that it appears to add much less thickness/heft to the phone than existing options. However, I can't seem to find mention of it anywhere, including Samsung's own website.

Does anyone know if/when this is supposed to come out? I don't need a phone that'll last 48 hours but i'd like one that lasts 20-24 with medium to heavy use even in non ideal situations (poor cell reception for example). Also the damn phone randomly starts heating up and sucking down battery like the cpu is on full tilt even though I have no apps running in the background.

Just put it in power saver mode. That'll help you get through most of the day if not more.

Recently i've also been travelling a lot so the network and reception definitely comes into play as well as my frequent use of tethering. And no I will not carry around a spare battery pack to swap it into the phone when I need more juice. I think it's the most ridiculous idea ever especially when I don't want to break tethering or communication.

I had the power saver off and I can definitely notice a difference between the two. Power saver mode stays on for me. I can't wait to go Note 2 so i can go all day.

Check your battery stats. Make sure there's not an app eating up cycles. Leave GPS off. What also helps is if you recharge your phone when off. Once it hits 100%, take out the battery for 30 seconds. Put battery back in, charge up to 100%. Once a month is good enough.

Yeah saw that. Says it's coming in stock in 1 month. Not sure how reliable that is since Samsung isn't even advertising it.

Not sure if this is real, but I'm sure, that this one will also come with a backdoor and will add extra thickness to the phone. The current 4600mAh battery from Mugen Power [HLI-I9300XL] is using the best cells (per Mugen representative), so I guess, there won't be any way to create a 3000mAh battery that will fit into the OEM socket.

Figure out what's draining your battery. Run this for a day or 2.

If the phone heats up it means there is some process running in the background. Probably a poorly coded app or a game you didn't fully shut down.

Sigh, Seems like the OEM extended battery is vaporware. A 3000mAh battery seemed perfect as it's a great balance between longer life and not having my phone turned into a brick to hold.

I regularly close all of the screens in the app switcher and clear the memory in the task manager. It seems just being on the cell network with intermittent to normal coverage drains my battery on average of 6 - 6.5 % per hour. This is literally with no 3rd party apps running in the background. I mean, this gives me about 14 hours of standby time with ZERO usage. Once I actually start using the screen or surfing the internet this drops closer to 10 hours. I just want to be able to unplug it at 9am and not have to plug it back in till 11pm or so. With WIFI coverage, it only drains about 2-3% per hour. Blargh

This. The one and only time I use task manager type apps is when something is wrong. You do not need it for normal usage.

Really? What sort of average drain do you get on Wifi and cellular? It's been like that since I got the phone on day 1. I went to AT&T customer service to have it looked at and those douches just said "Yeah it drains fast. We can't do anything about it".

That's BS. In my office I typically have at most one bar of signal. Data...lucky to get something resembling 3G, usually only 1X. Signal is so bad I have trouble even sending texts sometimes.

My battery will easily drain 50% in 6 hours with almost zero usage, just hourly gmail sync and such.

Maybe it's because sg3 has LTE. I don't have sg3 and I never had LTE phone. My Galaxy Nexus probably drains about 1% an hour.

Ugh that tears it. The lowest drain i've EVER gotten is about 2.5% per hour. This is on WiFi with maybe 5 minutes of usage over an entire day. I thought that was pretty damn good. As soon as i'm in off of Wifi and in HSPA+/LTE territory, the lowest i've ever gotten is around 5.5%. This is with full bars and perfect reception.

I filled out an RMA with Samsung and i'm going to ship it off to their repair department. I'll see what they say about the phone. Sigh, I gotta switch to my old Iphone 3GS for a week or so.

I can't tell you what my static drain is because I hardly ever find myself in that situation. But I also don't run a stock ROM so there's hardly any point to comparing.
