Thanks Engineer. OEM no longer has free shipping either, so I updated the OP. Heck, I should get me another one. 😛 I've got spare boards.

Dog gone it... I had to freaking order one to go in my recently returned from RMA ECS board. Now I have ANOTHER pc in my house that I have no use for, thanks guys.

I'm in the process of building a budget system for my brother and the E5200 is probably the route I'm taking. What speed RAM would be needed for a reasonable OC with the E5200?

I would assume all you need is good old DDR2-800 (6400). Since the CPU runs at an effective 200 FSB vs the 400 of the ram you have alot of headway. Even if you overclock the CPU to 3.32 by upping the FSB to 266 (1064 effective) you are still much slower than the ram can go (1600 effective). You can always up the ratio to keep the ram running at or near it's rated speed or just leave it underclocked.

That's what I figured, thanks. For this price, I could pick up the E5200 and a used IP-35E for about the same price as a new AMD X2 6000+ and MB from Newegg. Given that, I think it's a pretty easy decision to go with the Intel setup.

Let's assess the boxes and equipment around me..........2 e6600's, 1 e8200, 1 e8400 & 1 6000+X2............

I really really wish Fry's would bring back the FAR Ultra Cases now.

$65.99 with free ground shipping

This is around $2 over the post-price-drop 1k pricing. Not super hot, but warm for anyone who was not planning to use the miniscule heatsink it comes with.

Newegg is around $73 shipped for a retail boxed unit.

This is the cheapest Wolfdale core chip available and is great for low power draw.

Haha zap i think you must have a server farm in your basement how much computer stuff you buy 😀

I have this processor for a WHS (Windows home server) box i build and its a great little processor. Pretty good dang performance and very low power use.

Frys.com still owes me a couple Ultra Aluminus cases for around $50 each with free shipping. My order is still listed as "backordered."

Lower RAM/Mem divider first to make sure that's not the issue. Make sure all the SpeedStep/Voltage reduction C1E stuff is disabled, along with CPU Spread Spectrum.

Bump the FSB up by 20 or so each time and run Orthos/Prime with Small FFT's to check for stability for about 1hr.....keep bumping up the FSB until you get a no POST/or unstable platform. Back down FSB or bump up voltage and begin fine tuning with longer stress tests.

Edit: You may want to check for a BIOS update before you do any of this too, b/c many boards I had in the past were just unstable at anything other than default until a BIOS update came along.

jcarson, besides lowering RAM multiplier and checking BIOS updates, see if there is a FSB "Strap" setting in BIOS. Sometimes adjusting that will help a board that otherwise won't clock up.

BTW I didn't buy one yet... was going to after my previous post but then the ewiz.com site wouldn't come up. It had just turned midnight, so maybe they did some maintenance? Will try again if price hasn't changed.

EDIT: Deal dead, price up and no more free shipping. Darn.

Did you order from the first post that Zap posted which was OEM or the updated post (yesterday I think) that was for Retail Box unit?

Ordered Retail Box unit on Sunday.
I'm sure they'll square it away, eWiz has always been good to me.
I'm just curious if anyone else had the same problem.

So you didn't order the one from Zap's OP on Sunday, but you did order one from eWiz/Superbiiz/Newbiiz. I'm sure they will fix it then.

conlan, I think the retail box became on sale just Monday or Tuesday, so I think you ordered the OEM. Check your purchase price. If it was $64.99 then you purchased the OEM, and if it was $65.99 then you purchased the retail. Part numbers is E5200BOX for retail, and just E5200 for OEM.

That's why I asked earlier as I posted the retail version yesterday. Your original posting had a conflict on the eWiz page...stated OEM in the title but Retail in the description. Since it didn't show a "box" as the boxed edition does, I concluded it was OEM.

E5200 Retail box $65.99 shipped LINK fast shipping too.

Thanks! Just placed the order. This will go great with the IP-35E that I just bought from you. 😉

I don't think you'll regret it.

I fired this little beast up this morning and have it @ 266 x 12.5 = 3.33GHz, it's yet to go over 50C in RealTemp running either Prime95 or Orthos.
