OEM E5200
$52.99 with free ground shipping

Seems like a weekend deal only, so grab it while it's hot! This is $12 less than before. Newegg has the retail box version for $20 more!

This is the cheapest Wolfdale core chip available and is great for low power draw. Overclock for cheap high performance. Forget about Celerons. These are new/improved Celerons.

pretty good deal - these must have a 12.5 multiplier, which is huge. Can these hit 3.33 Ghz on a regular basis, by just upping the FSB to 1066 Mhz?

Looks like same TDP as E2xxx series (which makes sense if the E5xxx is the replacement for that line). I'm really surprised the prices haven't dropped more on the e2xxx chips or the equivalent over the last 6 months or so. Maybe the low end is so much better than it used to be?

I'm in for one though as need another for a HTPC and these scale down power usage nicely under linux.

Has anyone else noticed how bad the motherboard/cpu combo deals are at Fry's recently? Fry's has the E5200 with a cheap ECS motherboard for $109.99 this week, really pathetic. Or maybe I've just become spoiled over the past few years with their (normally) great deals.....

They have never had good combos week after week. Maybe once a month or so, sometimes a good combo one week and another good one the following week. But it never was a long string of "great deals" weeks without end

I'm tempted to get one for an HTPC, though I could probably get away with a used E2xxx, if I could find one. Hrm.

Good news (except for those who already bought). Price just dropped to $64.99 still with free shipping.

A heatsink from the e2180 should work for this right?

Beautifully.

That's just the rating. AFAIK in reality it uses less power, especially in idle. These should cost Intel less to make since the E5200 is on a 45nm process (Wolfdale core).

LOL, I like your Topic Summary.....why do they keep changing their name?

IDK, I was totally fine with original.

Well, Intel just dropped prices this week, so expect lower prices to hit Fry's eventually. Two weekends ago they had the E8400 with a mobo which I'd consider a good deal since Newegg was $165 for just the CPU.

I thought my Q8200 with a ECS G31T-M for $189 from fry's was a good deal, since the CPU was $194.99 w/ free ship at newegg. Now the CPU $164.99. That is such a steal!

Obviously i bought a much better mobo (GB EP45-DS3L) to overclock with. So yeah, FRY's has good deals ever so often.

I got mine. On a mini ITX board with IGP and nothing else hooked up, both a BFG GS-650 and a Corsair 650TX (both works otherwise) would not stay powered on because the power draw was too low I guess. Used an old 200W SFX unit and it worked great.

Probably not, unless you go for a higher overclock (which it'll probably do) or you want the lower power draw/less heat output. Both have 2MB cache so performance per MHz will be around the same.

The E5200 will be a good upgrade from the E2xxx series, Celeron 4xx and 1xxx series. It might be an okay upgrade *for overclocking* for the E6300 and E6400 since those had low multipliers.

After reading up on this little bad-boy this weekend i could resist no longer and pulled the trigger on one.

There are reports all over about these running stable @ 3.33 and higher. Seems likely that you could crank up the FSB to 1066 for a 3.33 clock no sweat.

Thanks OP

Mines @ 3.81 w/ a zerotherm aftermarket h&f and has been for a few months now, no problems, prime95'd for a few hours and all... tried pushing 4ghz but had to crank the voltage up a little too high for my liking and well tbh it bsod after a few moments.. pretty hoss little chips imo 😀

gig ep45mobo 1066gskill ram

edit
3.6 seems easily doable and common w/ retail h&f
