Odometer kinda broken.

My friend's friend's mazda protege has a broken LCD screen on the odometer. As far as I can tell it still works, it's just that the LCD is broken. Do you guys how to read the mileage another way, maybe through OBDII?
 
from what I read online, it seems that the odometer information is not a generic OBD II parameter, so you will have to find the scan tool that works with your friend's Mazda Protege.
