Odds that my CPU / RAM survived?

Finally broke down and ordered the rest of the components to go with a core i7 920 I bought in December.

I bought a Asus P6T Pro MoBo, 12GB OCZ mem, Antec 550W PS, and a Saphire 4850.
Put the machine together on Sunday, everything looked good. Installed Windows, no problem.

But I was getting some weird readings though on SpeedFan. The "AUX" temp was 125C! Something seemed wrong... Anyway... I was running Prime95 and about 5 minutes in I heard a pop and smelt burning electronics... I knew this was bad. I opened the case, disconnected all the wires, and reconnected. Turned on the PC and I noticed a little blue spark near the SATA / SAS ports when I hit the power button, and then nothing happened.
There was a green LED on the board that was still lit.

I RMA'ed the motherboard and PSU back to Newegg. I didn't RMA the RAM (I know... I'm kicking myself I should have) or the CPU / Video card. Part of the problem is I got the CPU somewhere else some time ago.

Now, I'm just waiting to get everything back, hoping that everything else still works.

What are your thoughts? Any motherboard sparking horror stories that lead to OK CPU/Ram? I don't have another LGA1366 board to test on.

Just kidding. I've actually seen several burned motherboards with everything else intact. As long as you don't see any physical burn patterns on the RAM sticks and the CPU you're probably good. And as long as there's no physical damage to the components they should also be covered by manufacturer warranties just in case.

Thanks man... gives me some hope. The waiting is killing me. Everything else looked good though... no burns or anything.
 
I bet you feel like a sucker buying that i7 in December and not using it until now.

Err, wait, has this system been running since December? I was under the impression that you bought the CPU in December and you haven't used it until now, which..is...well, always a bad idea.

I hope your gear's alright though. That's never fun to deal with.
 
Just an update... I got the new motherboard & PSU and everything works! Thanks everybody. Haven't gotten the courage up yet to overclock this rig, but the core i7 is awesome stock.
 
50%... either it did or didnt.

that said, if you get your old components to post with a new board- run a lengthy burn in test.
