So someone at my program was playing Yahtzee with a resident, and the guy rolled 3 yahtzees in a row, all taking 3 rolls. Do the odds change if say on the 2nd one he rolled a 4 of a kind on the first roll? Or does the fact that this is also an unlikely event cancel out the fact that he had 2 rolls to get the last remaining number for a 5 of a kind?

I calculated it as 1 in 17 billion for the odds...but I'm fairly certain I f'd up.

The little hand held electronic ones are great time wasters if you can't sleep or if you're on a long flight or car ride (assuming you're not driving).

i have a netbook. i watch anime.

I got about a 1 in 10 million chance when I run through the calculations.

edit: haha, i just realized that I forgot what a yahtzee was and totally calculated the wrong number.

Of course it's easier to get a yahtzee in 3 rolls if your first roll is a 4 of a kind. But then you're not talking about the odds of getting a yahtzee in 3 rolls, you're talking about the odds of rolling a specific number in two rolls (odds are 1 - (5/6)^2 )
