odds of firmware update messing up drive?

have a new firmware for sammy 840 evo but not sure if needs an image doing first. i know to be safe i should but wondering what the odds of screwing up is

Probably not a high percentage but why risk your data. BACKUP!

You're more likely to suffer an issue from outside forces (eg. sudden power loss) than the firmware update, and those odds are extremely low...unless you do something ridiculous like updating during a lightning storm with no UPS.

I've done three firmware updates to my 840 EVO since I got it, none were destructive.
