Watch any Lucas directed or written movies. I question if he EVER had the ability.
Oh no, it's this thread again. The problem with Lucas is his success went to his head. He surrounds himself with sycophants and other "yes men". I acknowledge the contributions of his ventures, especially ILM, to the cinematic medium. However, I do think he's over rated as a filmmaker. He did start off as a brilliant and hungry director. Star Wars was a labour of love. Over the years, I think he just got too comfortable. The prequels and Crystal Skull exist as means of keeping the gravy train coaled and watered. In other words, he's become what he despised back in the 1970s. A Hollywood businessman who puts money first at the expense of the art.
I think I lost all respect for him when he claimed the poor reception Red Tails received from studios, critics, and moviegoers was due to racism. Couldn't possibly be because the movie was genuinely bad and did no justice to it's subject, could it now?
