there's been lots of SUCCESSFUL reboots lately.
ie: Batman, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes

And i'm not talking about rebooting the whole Star Wars series, just the prequels. Leave Episodes 4-6 alone. (And Han shot first!)

Completely replace/erase Episodes 1-3. Anything's better than Jar Jar and the stupid mitcolorians explaination of the Force.

And while i'm at it, have JJ Abrams or Josh Wheaton (Firefly, Avengers) at the helm.

Unfortunately I think the odds are low for a Star Wars reboot as long as George Lucas owns the franchise :(

His estate will probably reboot 1-6 eventually, estates are like that. See: Tolkien, Frank Herbert, various mystery writer brand names still being used to publish books long after the person is dead.

The only way I don't see it happening is if he assigns the IP to some kind of trust or foundation with a charter that blocks reboots.

Joss Whedon

Wheaton is Will Wheaton

And there will likely not be a reboot (at least in my lifetime). Maybe a super-dooper uber 4D expanded special edition with 10,000 Gungans in every scene, but no reboot.

Even then, just give it time. Once those in charge of such an organization let the idea of a hugely profitable series of remakes start bouncing around in their heads, the legal roadblocks will start to vanish.

the only Star Wars reboot you'll see in this lifetime is one that makes it worse and puts a bigger emphasis on selling toys to kids.

Reboot? NO. Doubtful that anyone would bother. Let's face it, the only people who complain about eps 1-3 are the hardcore fans, and the money makers don't care about them. So long as it makes money, they'll leave it alone.

What I am hoping to see, is that George Lucas will drop dead from a massive coronary, and his descendants will authorize the third trilogy. George has the idea of it, written down somewhere, but doesn't want to make it.

I'd love it if he handed the project over to people who can actually write screenplay and direct movies, as he has shown the world that he no longer has the ability to do either.

I'd love for someone to do something with the Zahn novels in a 7-9 type of setting or just a complete spin off. But they need to bring in someone else to do it all. I'd actually like to see Peter Jackson do them or at least have some level of involvement. Get Abrams/Whedon to write and co-produce, Jackson direct?

I'm in the camp that believes once Lucas croaks we will see new SW movies. I doubt they will be remakes, that simply isn't necessary. The SW universe is there for any creative mind to play with and there is an endless stream of possibilities.

Lucas has absolute control over the franchise and he doesnt think anything needs fixing.

I'll take Whedon, but not Abrams.

I pretty sure I won't pay money to see anything by Abrams in the theater again.

That dawned on me the other day that someone should redo the prequels ignoring everything Lucas has done. Chances of it happening are nil, but maybe one of his kids are cool and they'll do it when ol' George kicks off.

I also would rather see the trilogy after Return of the Jedi. Peter Jackson would probably do well with it. Please keep Abrams far away from Star Wars.

Watch any Lucas directed or written movies. I question if he EVER had the ability.

Why? Unlike other reboots - Star Wars is still very popular. Reboots of "Star Wars" happens during re-runs on Spike TV, Clone Wars Animation series, and whenever new "star wars" related games are released. ;)
