It's also terribly inefficient in terms of power produced per unit of fuel consumed and it's deficient in terms of torque.

They're a novel idea and they're good in situations where RPM is more important (like on a road course or other track) but aside from the design novelty, the only real advantage they have is small physical size in everyday applications.
