Odd

I know you can wake up with your hands asleep, I know you can wake up with your feet asleep, but somehow, the left hand side of my skull was asleep! As soon as I got out of bed it disappeared, but .... odd!

you probably occluded your temporal blood vessels for a little bit.

by the way, your skull can't fall asleep... your scalp can, though.

Stroke?

Highly doubt. It wouldn't just go away when I got out of bed.
maybe it was a mini-stroke (transient ischemic attack)

nah, if that were the case, he'd have a hard time getting out of bed. he'd be dizzy, nauseous, vision problems, weakness or tingling down an entire side of his body, total loss of strength in his extremities (almost like they were really just too heavy)...

it just sounds like he occluded his superficial termporal artery... it's the vessel that supplies blood to the lateral half of his scalp

Does this normally happen?

meh, it's not uncommon... it just means that you slept with something putting a bunch of pressure on the side of your head... probably, your wrist or something.

if it happens more frequently and you're certain nothing's pressing against the side of your head while you sleep, go see a doctor.

Seriously man, not being able to feel your head is bad.
