Odd Things You Remember From Being A Kid

I was a kid all through the 70's, so there was no shortage of odd and weird stuff.

I remember getting pizza spread. It was sort of like spreadable pizza toppings to put on toast. It came in a can like salmon does. It wasn't bad but not great either. Anyone else remember that stuff?

I also remember those Minute Rice commercials with Alice from the Brady Bunch. One commercial said to add orange juice to the rice. That sounded nasty.

And cool prizes in cereal boxes. lol

My wife and were just discussing cereal box prizes. Do cereal boxes still come with prizes or do they have stupid download codes printed on the inside?

I also remember our chip company Hostess deciding to test fruit flavoured chips. Grape, cherry and orange were offered. Grape wasn't half bad. It was a major fail for Hostess.

Nope. Now you just get fruit loops with added fiber.

Unfortunately lawyers think that kids today are too stupid to discern the difference between a crunch berry and a large bag full of plastic parts and are concerned they will choke on them.

Ashtrays everywhere, even clothing stores
Steel soda cans with a tab you could save
Prices were labeled with a sticker, not a UPC, or on the shelf
A local general store that sold groceries, and everything else, including guns.
Tang
Returnable bottles
TastyKakes were wrapped in wax paper
The world still seemed special, and I had an imagination...

I grew up in the early 90s. I remember chewing gum made to look just like cigarettes in cigarette packs.

Free play on arcade machines in laundry mats. Good times.
