firstly, relevant specs:

asus a7n8x dlx rev. 2.0
AXP barton 2500@3200 1.725v
evga 6800
soundblaster live 5.1
enlight 360w ps

this setup has been perfectly stable for me since ive had it for the last 6 or so months.

i just switched cases last night, and everything went well. i went from an antec slk3700 to a skyhawk lian li wanna be. no problems, just swapped everything out. i did not remove and reinstall the hsf(sk-6 with 80mm NMB) as i was feeling lazy.

with 2 vantec stealth 120mm, 1 in front and back, my temps were bad: idle of 49/50c and load of 60c. not to mention the case was way too loud. after the swap my temps were 36c idle and still 60c load. i figure the load temps are the limitations of the hsf combo (of which i am currently looking for one here). vid card temps dropped 7c down to 59c.

after checking temps, and being quite proud of my swap, i decided to watch an mpeg. i got a pop up saying it wouldnt play due to a problem with a video or audio component. once that i happened, i did realize i didnt hear the usual start up sounds, etc. i checked under device manager and lo and behold my live 5.1 wasnt there. so being that im also looking to upgrade my hdd, and reformatting soon, i decided just to go with my onboard sound instead of fooling around with drivers and trouble shooting. i dled the drivers installed, and got the sound up and working. oddly, my live 5.1 was working, so i disabled my onboard again, and went on about my business.

what really has me stumped: my temps have now jumped up to 57c idle and 67c load! what gives? i find it hard to believe that just installing some drivers would make and difference in temp. any one have any suggestions or reasons why this may have happened?

im thinking maybe a conflict in speedfan/mbm5 with my mobo sensors as all the temps (case, socket, diode) reflect the same change. any ideas?

How many case fans are now installed? And also what is your ambient case/mobo temp during these tests. We need to know the relative CPU temp to help here.

oops forgot to mention that. just the back fan that come stock with the new case.

case temp with antec was around 41-43c.

case temp is 32c, diode is 57c, socket is 45c all idle. ill edit with load temps in a few.

i just ran the mbm5 config again, and now my case and socket temps have switched temps:confused: i havent updated mbm in a while, so ill try that.

mbm5 is the most current version. under load im seeing case 34, diode 70, and socket 54. mbm warning went off.

I can't really see a problem with those temps, I would suggest you try running more than just an 80mm exhaust fan though.

More important quite often than actual temps is stable temps, if there is wild fluctuation or sudden heat spots these can cause problems, hence the reason for having both inlet and exhaust fans, you get to keep a constant predictable airflow through the computer.
