This morning i was going to shut down my computers because of the threat of more rain today & i can't leave the windows open= too much heat in my house.
When i do shut down my computers i try to stop SETI from running & let the CPU cool down 1st.

Well, i went to stop SETI & there was no SETI Driver icon in the system tray(near the clock). Opened up the task manager & it showed SETI as running. Tried to "end process" with no luck. So i just shut down the computer.

Does this sound like a SETI Driver oddity or an OS thing? Win XP Home BTW. This did happen once before a few months ago, but i just figured it was a fluke kind of thing. I've never seen this happen with Win 98SE.

I'm running setidriver as a service at the moment and have that problem, when u login setidriver appears, then after a while it jus disappears on both XP & 2K pro :(
If you are running it as a service you can jus type "NET STOP SetiDriver" in the cmd prompt to stop it processing, and "NET START SetiDriver" to start it again, that should also bring up the setidriver window again. (replace setidriver with whatever you have called the service)

Hope that helps ya :)
Andrew.

Not running Driver, or anything else, as a service.

This isn't a huge deal, i was just kinda curious as to why this would happen. I've had this computer for just short of a year now & this has only happened twice that i remember.

This usually happens when an error in Internet Explorer occurs and it got closed by the system. When the desktop icons refresh, you'll find SETIDriver to be missin in the tray. If you check your task manager, you'll find that SETIDriver is still running along with whatever instance of SETI did you set your driver to run.

I've only seen this happens on Windows 2000 (I don't use Windows XP).

Thanks for the explaination IsOs. :)
Is there any way of getting the SETI Driver icon back in the system tray other than a reboot?

Aloha! :)
