I have Radeon 9800 pro 128mb and just got an new NEC FE990 19" CRT (black)...i used to have 19" Samsung 955DF and my win xp desktop resolution was 1280x1024 32bit, max refresh rate....here's the problem, the monitor changes resolutions fine and refresh rates are higher and it's noticebale in games...BUT, it seems that quality of the screen is worse on the sides than in the middle (for desktop)...if I look close at the backround, i can tell that start bar and icons on the sides look bit blurry and i can't seem to set a proper brightness level at that resolution as well, all white colors are way too bright...so now i've changed everythign to gray/black and have a blueish wallpaper and use 1600x1200 32, max refresh...it looks bit better but still nowhere near the clairty of 955DF....any suggestions?

OK, all monitors have crappier quality on the sides than in the middle. But yours seems a bit too much, tell me what is the max refresh.

Some monitors have focus controls to try and balance out the poor focusing that happens at the extents of the screen image. If you haven't already, try adjusting them to see what effect it has although these are only fine tuning in most cases, not a complete adjustment.

EDIT: Also just got to point out, leave the screen on (no power saving modes) for about an hour and then see if the problem has releived itself any. Some monitors have very poor focus immediately after being switched on and even have the picture slightly out of alignment which usually cures itself after a good few minutes.

nothing seems to change...maybe this is because my old 955DF had .20 dotp pitch and this monitor has .24 and i am still gettign used to this...i also notice when computer boots, at the ASUS BIOS Logo (has image in the middle, but black all-around) you can see this sort of wavy-like "distortion" on the sides....i dunno

Try adjusting the monitors 'moire' setting to see if it relieves that effect.
