odd problem...can you help?

Anyone know what would make a pc freeze when loading the personal options at startup? It's using XP Pro and can only be started in safe mode without locking up. ANtivirus program has turned up nothing, and even a system restore didn't do squat. The only thing that has been added recently is a program called AVG which was used to take care of the W32.bagel.ai worm that was found last Tuesday.

Thats all the info I could get from my friend. She has no clue what site the AVG was found or what that stands for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AVG antivirus is highly used on these boards. She might have something in her startup that is causing it, anyway you can get her to poster her startup list log?

Please first run the trendmicro antivirus scanner. Reboot into "safe mode with networking support" This will sadly require using Internet Explorer.

Sadly, we tried all of that already. She has decided to do a reformat.
