Odd pricing on old 7600GT video card

Is there something special about 6 year old tech, as in the 7600GT? I see some odd closed auctions on Ebay. They seem to have legit buyers on most of them. I was just about to donate two of them. Really odd

Nothing surprises me on fleabay. People get caught up in the bidding and seem to forget reason.

My guess would be a compatibility issue of some sorts. There is a game somewhere that possibly behaves best on windows XP/DX9/nvidia. The fact that there are multiple ones going for that price might suggest that people are hoarding them though. Odd indeed.

I could understand it for older cpus for use in an older motherboard, but for pci-e video cards, it makes no sense.

perhaps they contain a chip that can block NSA snooping....

I think you just figured out how to sell everything on eBay for 3 to 100 times what it's actually worth. Just claim it will block the NSA with a small disclaimer at the end saying the statement has not been approved by the NSA. 😉

Hurrr my friend has a 6970.. durr this 7600GT shud beat it, biggar number = bettar card :hmm:

There might be legit reasons for buying such an ancient POS, it was the last card nvidia made before they went with a unified shader arch, maybe the only thing compatible with whatever, but far more likely its the first thing i said 😛

maybe it's sold to people replacing their dead 7600GT, and didn't bother to research about a different card...

There was a dealer on Ebay a few years back that was selling lots of ATI HDTV Wonder tuner cards. He advertised it as the model that had no DRM chip onboard, so you could record OTA HDTV to your PC. He was getting a healthy premium doing this. He just forgot to mention that none of the tuner cards available from any maker had any DRM chips on them, congress was just talking about doing it. Thief.

this is really getting stranger by the minute on the bay. Do a search for PNY 7600GT. The PCI-E versions are going for incredible amounts of money.
I should say some are going for big bucks. Some are not
At first I thought it was kids just bidding up stuff for the fun of it, but there are closed auctions with winners with large feedback scores. What's going on with this?
