Odd network problem

Running W2K:

We have a standard user account group, and the admin group. Admin has no trouble with anything (well, the admin account doesn't have any problems, the admin's problems are too numerous to list...), but the normal users cannot use HTTP or FTP out.

The weird thing is that, when logged in as a normal user, I can ping other machines on and off the LAN (using DNS or IP addy's), and can browse the other computers in our group. Even stranger, this computer hosts a web site and an FTP site; both of which work fine; I can also browse to it over the network from other computers.

I switched one of the users over to admin rights, and it worked. I created a new standard user account, and it would not work. The only thing that I can think of is that I installed Black Ice yesterday; it's gone now, and the problems persist. Ports 21 and 80 are both listening, DNS is set up right, etc.

Any other ideas? I'm afraid to go in in the morning; three people share this computer, and they of course blame me for their inability to check their e-mail. I don't want to die, and I'm out of ideas....please help me! Am I missing something obvious?

Did this happen before you installed Black Ice Defender? It might have not completely uninstalled (as with most programs) and left some keys in the registry that could of cause the problem to continue even after being removed.

Since every works when you switch the users account to have admin rights, I would suggest looking at the rights for that user. For now, put those 3 users in a group that works (preferrably not admin) since you don't want to get yelled at.

It's getting, gotta get some sleep. I'll try to think of something tomorrow.

It seems like it happened after Black Ice but I'm not sure, I don't use that machine. I checked the rights for the user, and they are the same as they are on our other W2K boxes. The other boxes work; the one I'm on now is logged on under a user account, with Black Ice running.

Unfortunately, the only account that will work is admin. I hope it doesn't come to that.
