Well I know I am going to get slapped by a mod for this, but it has to be said.

Many topics go unmoderated on subjects like tattoos, peircings, drugs, street racing and sex. These topic would clearly fall under things that are bad for minors by either the law or parents, or both.

So it strikes me odd that the a favorite beer thread got closed.

So I must ask, what are the guidelines for moderating threads to protect the minors that hang out here? And how long is my anandtech vacation going to be?

You will not have an AnandTech vacation, but please bring issues up such as this directly with us, or post them in forum issues. Off-topic is not the appropriate forum.

thanks,

Tattoos, piercings, and sex seem fine to me, minors can have all of these (although they need parental consent for tattoos and piercings i think). They let favorite beer go by before, after a protest, I guess they won't anymore.

ltk,

The beer thread was locked on the basis of minors. Sex, peircing and tatoos are usually against the law for minors. My point being if the law is going to be the moderation standard, the moderation seems inconsistant.

I was also unaware the street racing thread got locked. I stand corrected on that one.

what about Windogg's (or someting Dogg's) beer list? He was gathering the names of beers all around the world, that wasn't locked

I think that was Guru's thread, but that don't matter.

I posted about this same topic in that Mod thread at the top. I'm awaiting a good slapping around by the mod for it ;)

Alpha, that is NOT the second amendment.

charrison, I found that odd as well. Especially since apparently it's OK to sell pr0n DVD's in the FS/FT forum.

Odd moderation in the forums \

Yeah really, what is going on? Bichito's "getting rid of internet banner" was locked after 7 min, BUT Luchini's "Best porn titles" was locked after 17 min? So that must mean the mods, not that I blame them, are more perturbed by illegal software conduct, rather than pornographic content. Interesting. :)

Scrapster,
It is not the timelyness of the locking, it is the content that is allowed to stay, vs what goes. Both of the threads you mention are questionable, and both were locked.

I once started an "anti-car thread" thread. Took the mod about 30 seconds to lock it. ;)

what is bad about an "anti-car" thread?

I got banned for a week for providing a link to an adult dvd in the hot deals forum which I had gotten the same link from the same forum a few weeks earlier, for a deal that was repeating on a different dvd. I thought that was odd, but maybe the original guy got banned eventually too.

Anyway, it's their forum, their rules, I don't mind that a bit. It does seem though that different rules aplly to different members. Then again, some stuff may simply slip through.
