Hi Everyone...

I just noticed this message for my PIII 600 during the POST...

Intel (R) To Be Announced processor 600 MHz

Is it just me or does that seem a bit odd?

I'm far from the expert, but to me it sounds like you may have a very early edition of whatever BIOS you're using. For example, when shopping for a mobo, under "supported processors" you'll see something like "Intel PII, 450, 550, plus support for future processors" or words to that effect. Maybe your BIOS insn't automatically recognizing your chip. Is there a way to go into your BIOS and tell it what processor you're using?

My Abit Kt7 didn't recognize my 1Gig Athalon, but once I went in and put in "1000 MHZ" everything was dandy. Hope this helps.

No idea...it's my work computer...a Dell...I'll open it up during lunch (now) and see what I can find...

I tried downloading that earlier today...but wasn't able to.

Anyway, I opened the case and looked at the markings on top of the proc.

600E/256/100/1.65V

I also checked the BIOS settings...and they allow no user changes other than AUTO (It is a Dell system) for the processor...

well it's a coppermine with cBO stepping.
I can't explain your message though! I'll see if I can get some more input with this.

I suspect MichaelD is right.

You might want to flash update your BIOS to a later version, if you are comfortable with that sort of thing.
