Odd issue with taskbar menus...

Hi All,

On my wife's new Sony Vaio Laptop with Vista Business, she is having an issue I've never seen before. Whenever she clicks to expand the quick launch menu out (so you can see all of the programs), clicks the clock (on the lower side side of the task bar), even clicks to access the shutdown menu from the windows button, the associated windows will pop up for maybe 1-2 seconds then disappear. This prevents her from using her quick launch bar, she can't access the clock, and even accessing programs that are more then 1 layer deep is literally impossible.

Anyone even seen this before or have any idea where to start troubleshooting?

I've already tried running this in Safe Mode and the same problems occurs so I don't think it's a top lvl program issue.

Also, even when accessing the menus via key strokes, they close almost immediately after they open (they "flash" open for a brief second then disappear")

Thanks!

Make sure the Esc key on the keyboard is not stuck and doesn't have anything pressing on it. If that key is being pressed, any menu that you open will immediately close again.

Ok, I found the answer. I had to turn off all autostart features in Vista. The laptop was getting to the point where the active windows were blinking so much you couldn't even drag files away from one window to another. I hope this post helps someone in the future!
