Odd error at startup

Hi there,
This morning I attempted to start up my computer (AMD 1.2 ghz,512 PC2700, running Win XP). It booted up normally, then the Windows xp screen came up. The black one with the windows logo showing that XP was loading. This finished and I heard my CD rom drives start up like usual, but then all of a sudden it powered down and I got the following blue screen:

Stop : C0000139 {Entry Point Not Found} The procedure entry point RtldeleteAtomfromAtomTable could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll

I have no clue what this means and it is stopiing me from booting windows therefor rendering my computer useless. Lookin for some help. Thanks alot

I suggest you start by putting the drive into a different computer as a slave, and copying out whatever files are important to you so you've got a backup copy of them on the other computer. If the other computer has up-to-date antivirus software, also give it an antivirus scan. Then try this:

  • Get ZoneAlarm basic firewall software downloaded and burn it to CD or put it on a USB drive or something
  • Find your antivirus CD and go to your antivirus vendor's site for the most recent offline-updater they've got available, and put that on the CD or USB drive too
  • Unplug your problem computer from the Internet connection and leave it that way
  • Boot from your WinXP CD and begin Windows Setup. The first time it asks if you want to Repair or do a fresh install, choose "fresh install."
  • Give WinXP Setup a couple minutes to get going
  • When it asks where to install, choose the C:\ partition and it should see the C:\WINDOWS folder with your existing Windows installation, and it'll ask if you want that repaired? and now you say Repair.
  • Leave the network cable unplugged while WinXP gets installed. You'll end up with a "raw" unpatched WinXP installation that's vulnerable to worms, hence the need to keep it isolated from the Internet (I'm assuming you have no hardware firewall here). Your data and programs should remain in place.
  • Now install your ZoneAlarm and antivirus software, then connect the network cable, and go to Windows Update several times to get all your updates.
  • Enable Automatic Updates so Windows stays up-to-date.
  • It wouldn't be a bad idea to install Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3 either, and immunize against spywares.
  • You can find links to ZoneAlarm, Spybot and Grisoft AVG Free Edition software if you hit the Photo Guide link in my signature and go to the Resources page 🙂
Hope that helps 🙂 A full reformat/reinstall is another option, of course, but that means reinstalling your programs too.
