Odd E-mail Server Problem

So I just got Windows 2000 Server running on my server, and I decided I'd install this e-mail server program I've used before called Mailtraq. I set it up the right way (I've done it a lot before) and it works, kind of. The two domains the program is set up for are my Iowa State assigned domain name and another domain I set up to point to this address with mydomain.com. I have a webserver running off of that domain name, so I know it works, but mail doesn't. When I send mail to a mailbox at user@mycustomdomain.com, the mailbox I sent the mail with (I've tried hotmail, my ISU e-mail, and another e-mail) get's an error message back about "Reason 550: User unknown". I'm sure the username is correct, and when I send to that user at user@myiowastatedomain.com, it works. Any thoughts on this?

Try creating a new mail account, although I`m not familar with Mailtraq -- is it a comlete mail server, or?

Then send mail to that new account. If that don`t work, check mailtraq's website if they have one for FAQ's, etc.
