Odd 'defect' with 20" LCD

My wife gave me a LG L204 wide screen LCD for my birthday a few days ago. Its nice even compared to my Dell 2405 sitting next to it. It has no dead pixels, hardly noticeable backlight bleeding, incredible whites (the Dell's white looks yellowish compared to it) and it was cheap ($349cdn).

Now, here is the problem. I had it hooked up to my desktop PC through the VGA port, today I connected my Macbook through the DVI port and notices a strange pulsating small patch near the bottom left side of the screen near the bezel. Its what you'd see if you pressed your finger against an LCD screen, but this, like I said, pulsates on and off (mostly off) and only when the wallpaper is a few certain colours.

I'm wondering if anyone might have an idea as to what it might be? Hate to return it, since otherwise, its great.

 
Yes, its new. I can live with it if I know it isn't going to get worse. That's why I'm trying to figure would what it might be.
 
With all do respect, why in the world would you choose to "live with it"? It's a new monitor with a warranty...use the warranty.

 
Because otherwise, its perfect, and I don't see that too often. If I exchange it, what are the chances of getting one with dead pixels, backlight bleeding, etc. Pretty good. This I only notice if I have wallpaper that's of a particular colour. If I know it isn't going to get worse, then I don't care.
 
The cover layer of the panel is damaged and that spot is extremely sensitive. If you were to try and clean your screen lightly you might get an array of dead pixels there. I'd definitely get a replacement. You have nothing to lose. If the new panel isn't quite as uniform I'd rather have that than a damaged cover but it's your choice. 🙂 The LG L204WT is a great LCD and your replacement will be just as high contrast.
 
Just noticed something else. My Macbook is doing the same thing in the same corner on the Macbook display. Now, that would make me think its the Macbook video card, but the LG display shows the same thing when I hook up to the desktop PC. Now I'm thinking maybe there's something in the room causing it, but I can't see what, nor is my Dell 24" effected.
 
As you can see by my avator, I only have one ;-)

But my wife sees the same thing, so it must be the Kool Aid.

Maby you've both had too much to drink 😛

If it's under warrenty it wouldn't hurt to RMA it. you chance of getting one with dead pixels isn't a lot.
 
If I go by the posters on Hardforums, its 6/10 chance of dead pixels. But I don't need to RMA it, I can take it back to the store and exchange it or get a refund (or, should I say, my wife will get the refund and I'll get socks for my birthday).
 
Well, I was going to ask if it was just the MacBook doing it. But, you know...:laugh::laugh:

OK, seriously, is the humidity and temperature in the room (and altitude) within the specs of the device?
 
I'm at sea level, very little humidity. I think everything checks out there. I wonder if either there's something magnetic behind it that's in the wrong position, or something pushing against it? Like I said, if this is all it will ever do, I'd love to keep it (I didn't even find it for a week). But if not, I guess I'll have to pack it up and take it back.
