So I am setting up a new windows box with a MSI K8N Neo and an IDE hard drive All the hardware is recognized correctly in the BIOS, but when I restart and it tries to boot from CD, I get the following error message:

Verifying DMI Pool Data.....
Boot from CD :
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I just recently used this exact same CD to install Windows on another machine of mine, and I don't understand why I am getting this message. I had previously had a SATA setup on this computer, but I yanked those parts out of it and I still can't figure out why my setup isn't working.

Any ideas? I don't have another windows CD, so I can't check that. Is there another OS I can boot from on a CD to test to make sure its not my windows CD?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Additionally, I have found that whatever CD rom Drive or cable I use on my Secondary Master IDE Channel does not work. The CD rom drive will click .. any ideas?

Check the basics,
1. Is the boot order referring to the cd rom as the first boot device?
2. Clean the CD rom and try again.

If it still won't work, try the cd rom on another system. It will at least boot. If not, then the cd is damaged.

I tried 3 different CD ROM drives and 2 different IDE cables. I am guessing it is a bad controller on the motherboard as each of the CDROM drives made the same noise. Correct?

Wait, clear CMOS first. I can't imagine it's the IDE controller. Althouhg it may be. Load with safe system defaults. I don't kno what els to tell you.
