Odd blank screen error

Anyone else getting a bug where when your screen turns off in power saving mode after x minutes it won't come back on? I just get a black screen. It seems to only happen when the AMD Crimson/Radeon program finds an update and flashes an alert. I'm running the 16.11.5 drivers in win7.

The only way to wake up/turn on my monitor is to hit ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager etc..

Yup. Win7 here as well. 16.9.2 drivers, but it has been happening across multiple driver versions for me.

To try and stop it, I found its entry in Scheduled Tasks and disabled it. Another workaround (I think) is to reboot after you see the notification.

Out of curiosity, do you use Google Chrome? I wondered whether there's a link between having a browser window open and this notification, but I'm not sure, I may have seen it without Chrome running.

No, I don't usually use Chrome. It is installed on that system though. I haven't had any problems since I updated to 17.2.1 a week or two ago.

17.2.1 drivers still seem to have this problem. I've seen it happen before, not just when the update UI has appeared in that session. I've had a blank screen twice after monitor resume today.

I haven't seen this issue in a while, but it occurred twice today. No AMD update UI, and while having Google Chrome running is a common point, it's not a consistent one for me.

Yeah, it started again for me on the weekend, update showing 17.4.4 and 17.5.1 optional. I'm still using 17.2.1. I have used Chrome a few times in the past week or two, so maybe that is a connection.

Just had it happen again yesterday. Updating to the new beta drivers, 17.6.2 fixed it again. Seems to be a recurring problem that wil not go away.

I haven't had it happen since the last time I posted and I haven't been using Chrome as my primary browser for about a month, but today it's happened once so far. I did have Firefox open. Maybe the link is an app that uses graphics hardware acceleration?

It could be that, though I've had it do it without Firefox open. It seems stable again today after going wonky earlier this week, even with the new patch notice sent to the radeon program (I've not updated the drivers). For awhile it was taking 5+ seconds to wake up the screen then it went back to requiring ctrl-alt-del to wake up the monitor.

Nothing in reliability monitor, where in the event log? Hardware Events? Nothing there or in System under Windows Logs.

just under the system log, however I don't think you'll find anything if it wasn't in the reliability monitor. I just thought I'd mention it as a screen going black for a few seconds is a common sign of a driver reset / "video hardware failure" (as reliability monitor puts it).
