The following actors were considered to play Batman in Tim Burton's 1989 movie:

Alec Baldwin
Charlie Sheen (for some reason, I don't think he would have been bad)
Pierce Brosnan
Mel Gibson
Bill Murray (wtf??)
Tom Hanks (a given- he gets considered for everything)

and the first choice to play Batman? Kevin Kline. He backed out at the last minute because he wasn't sure he'd be good in an action film. He instead chose to star in A Fish Called Wanda and won an Academy Award- but he missed out on pictures on cereal boxes and 4 inch action figures.

Michael Keaton is still the best Batman IMO. Some of that list is just ridiculous.

I thought Michael Keaton was great. Certainly alot better than Val Kilmer or George Clooney. Christian Bale isn't bad. But his hoarse whisper Batman voice is kind of weird.

Christian Bale eats shit for breakfast? Gross! No wonder he looked so gaunt in The Machinist.

OK, settle down :) Michael Keaton was good in the role, but that was more Tim Burton's invention than him playing Batman. Bale is playing Batman the way he was created and written, and I'm not sure anyone could do it better.

BTW- The voice thing is so he's not recognized. He does that (or at least it's implied) in the comics as well.

He eats petrified pieces of shit before putting the badman mask on and keeps them there while speaking. If his voice were any more gravel-ey he'd be spitting pebbles when he speaks.

I think batman having a seperate voice while batman is well known. Its just that Bale's batman voice is pretty bad. Keaton is good batman too, but I'd put Bale firmly ahead of him if not for Keaton having a much better "bat voice".

I'm guess somebody may have brought this up somewhere, but now that we have two Batman films with Christian Bale and "the voice", he can't change it much for the duration of this iteration of films, can he?

Bale's batman voice, didn't bother me, I thought it was cool. And, it seemed totally obvious to me watching the film that he was disguising it so that he wouldn't be recognized, and I don't read the comics. When I read articles that don't get that he is disguising it for a reason, I am left wondering how intelligent the writer really can be to have not even considered that.

Sure he can. Hell, in the next film he'll just spend all his time asking hookers their opinion of pop music from the mid-80s.

no he doesn't.

don't get me wrong, I like Bale as Batman. But his "batman voice" needs to go. It makes me laugh, which I don't think is the intended response.

I think we should have them dress up in their batman suits and battle it out to find out who is the best batman
