Hey all,
I'm benchmarking some laptops for reviews and have gotten some confusing results. Here are the specs

IBM Thinkpad T43 -- 3DM03: 1911 total, 754 CPU
XP Pro
Pentium M 1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB
1x512MB PC2-4200 DDR2 533MHz
60GB 7200RPM
64MB MR X300

Fujitsu N3510 -- 3DM03: 2576, 777 CPU
XP Home
Pentium M 1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB
2x256MB PC2-3200 DDR2 400MHz
60GB 5400RPM
64MB MR X300

Now, I didn't disable the bajillion IBM proggies that load w/Windows. Both were defragged, rebooted between different benchies. Both have most recent respective drivers for all devices.

Do the extra proggies and single channel mem make THAT much of a diff in 3DM03??? That is a helluva difference IMO. BTW, I recently restored the T43 from its recovery partition, didn't hardly install anything else. The Fujitsu I have installed Office and a few proggies, but disabled anti-virus from loading since the IBM didn't have it.

Do I need to re-run on the T43? I can't think of any aspects I'm missing; thanks!

BTW, I do realize that the drivers are going to be optimized differently. That just seems like a helluva difference. And I wouldn't think the CPU scores to be off like that; DC shouldn't make a diff like that, should it?

Erm, I personally think you get the bad benchies because they are laptops with integrated x300's. :\ Do some searches for people with x300's and you probably won't find them getting very much better than you.

He's trying to point out that there's a large difference between the scores they are getting.

If you look, the second laptop, even though it has slower CPU/FSB it outscores the first one by almost a thousand points in 3DMark03, even though they have the same video.

Are you using the same drivers for both laptops (for the video I mean)? Also, you might try running Driver Cleaner on the first one and then reinstall the video driver.

Well, with laptops of course manufacturers supply their own drivers. Thus there is IBM's X300 driver and Fujitsu's X300 driver. I thought about using the Omega's or something consistent between the two to make sure its not an issue w/the benchmarking software, but for my final results I will of course need to use the respective manufacturer's drivers.

And as I mentioned the T43 was freshly restored. Maybe I will restore the Fujitsu, and ensure that I install the bench software from the same sources. I'm 99% sure they're the same version, but you never know.

Anyone else have any ideas? Thx!
